When a Lizard Punches Thin Air in the 'Spider-Man Trailer' 👀👀
'Heartbreak High' reboot films in Sydney, an Aussie actor is cast in 'Star Wars: Ahsoka' and more Spidey shenanigans.
Hi friends! Hope you’re having a fab week. I started watching the live-action ‘Cowboy Bebop’ on Netflix and am really enjoying it! I haven’t seen the original anime series (I will now though) but going in fresh I really dig the aesthetic and John Cho as Spike.
🍿 What’s Shaking 🍿
🍿 I never watched the Aussie teen soap ‘Heartbreak High’ but I am always excited for local productions! This week Netflix announced a modern-day reboot of the series which is set to star a lot of very hip and cool people I kinda wish I knew including Ayesha Madon and James Majoos. The series has eight episodes and is set to debut in 2022 (It has been filming in Sydney). I think this looks super promising and is probably better than the reboot of Gossip Girl which I found… kinda boring!
🍿 Elsewhere, Australian actor Natasha Liu Bordizzo has been cast in the upcoming series ‘Ahsoka’ as one of the best characters in ‘Star Wars’: graffiti artist and former bounty hunter Sabine Wren.
🍿 Still in ‘Star Wars’ land, Patty Jenkins’ ‘Rogue Squadron’ has been shelved indefinitely even as it was supposed to go into production next year. This follows on from Rian Johnson’s proposed trilogy and David Benioff and Dan Weiss’ trilogy both being shelved too. Taika Waititi’s film seems to be going well though, he last said he’s got a story back in August. But Puck News seems to be pinning the huge creator turnover to Lucasfilm execs and micromanaging… which kinda makes sense given how messy the sequel trilogy was. I feel like even if the prequels were cheesy, at least it felt like it had one complete arc and one vision!
🍿Elsewhere: Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy says Hayden Christensen and Ewan McGregor’s reunion on the new Obi-Wan series was emotional!! She says they hadn’t seen each other for a long time! (My heart!!)
🍿 Sesame Street has its first Asian-American muppet. Her name is Ji-Young and she is 7 years old. Ji-Young likes friendship and skateboarding which is pretty alright in my books. Her first episode will air on Thanksgiving, which is plain old Nov. 25 for us Aussie folks.
🍿 There’s been a deluge of Spidey stuff, happening, most importantly the second trailer dropped, and though it didn’t show anything remotely Andrew or Tobey like, the internet still lost its collective mind trying to find clues. This is probably the most impressive - which is a shot of Lizard getting punched by… thin air! Perhaps a certain pair of Spidey-men were edited out of the trailer:
Here’s a snippet from a GQ profile of Tom Holland where he denies it again:
Ever since news of those castings appeared, the internet has obsessed over whether or not Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield are also returning. “No one believes me, but they’re not in the film,” Holland says. (If this is a lie, and it well might be, then don’t hate him. That’s work too. And really, isn’t it better not knowing?)
Anyway, a good tweet:
🍿 Last Shakes 🍿
A Harry Potter reunion. Vin Diesel has an outie. Kevin Spacey has to pay US$30m to ‘House of Cards’ studio. The 1MDB Malaysian sovereign wealth fund scandal that ensnared Leonardo DiCaprio and Miranda Kerr is getting a series (I hope both star as themselves!). The cast of Cowboy Bebop hang out. A Vanity Fair profile on Jennifer Lawrence!!!
