šæ āHere Out Westā is set to open this yearās Sydney Film Festival on Nov. 3. Itās an anthology film that follows eight interconnected stories after a baby is stolen from a hospital. The film, which is based on Western Sydney and was shot in Blacktown, explores themes including racism, assimilation and aspiration. Tickets are sold out but if anyone wants to give me one I would be much obliged šš
šæ Anya Taylor-Joy hasnāt met George Miller yet, even though sheās set to star in Millerās āFuriosaā, the prequel to 2015ās āMad Max': Fury Roadā. Per THR, sheās had conversations with him, talking about the character and the āstory as a wholeā. āEven at this stage in the process, working with him is like going to university,ā she said.
Iām not sure I would take this as a compliment only because I feel like I spent $30,000 to go to university and all I got out of it was a thick piece of paper. Iām not Anya Taylor-Joy though.
āFuriosaā is set to be the biggest production ever in New South Wales and is due to start rolling in June 2022. Chris Hemsworth and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (seen next in āThe Matrix: Resurrectionsā will also star.
šæ Pixar released a new trailer for the Buzz Lightyear movie, with Chris Evans voicing the astronaut. The film will follow the āhero who inspired the toyā. Itās very cute and I really hope it features this shot of Buzz in that Chris Evans sweater.
šæ This week Inverse spoke to Sung Kang, who plays Han in the best franchise ever about the importance of family time ā āThe Fast and the Furiousā. Kang talks about his career in Hollywood, and his breakthrough in Justin Linās āBetter Luck Tomorrowā.
āIf there arenāt writers and decision-makers from our community within the system, the world doesnāt change,ā Kang says. ā[Better Luck Tomorrow] put me in a leading man category in Hollywood that never existed.ā
Heās set to appear next in Disney+ās āKenobiā and āSnakeheadā.
Why it matters: Asians and Pacific Islanders make up less than 4% of leads and co-leads in Hollywood films. Leads starring Asian-American actors are so rare it prompted the social movement #starringJohnCho, which photoshopped Choās face onto blockbuster movie posters in a bid to advocate for more representation in Hollywood.
šæ RELATED: Kumail Nanjiani spoke about his experience on the set of the upcoming āKenobiā Disney+ series; his role is substantial, his character chats to Obi-Wan and is intimidated by him! Ewan McGregor is super nice and they shot on a set that kind of looks like a warehouse!
šæ Hereās another sneaky peak at āSpider-Man: No Way Homeā. Apparently this shot has no CGI according to Tom Holland. I have a question: What if this is a secret bamboozle and Tom Holland isnāt in this photo but Tobey Maguire??? (Our Frankieās Milkshake poll shows people are expecting three Spider-people in the upcoming film!)
šæ NPR has an interesting look at villains and toxic tropes, tied to Safin, Rami Malekās villain in āNo Time to Dieā, who has facial scars. This is a somewhat of a tradition for Bond villains ā Mads Mikkelsenās Le Chiffre, Christoph Waltās Blofeld, and Jarvier Bardemās Raoul Silva all have or end up with some sort of facial disfigurement.
šæ Last Shakes šæ
Succession is getting a season 4. Dune has been greenlit for part 2. The new trailer for Netflixās āCowboy Bebopā is very stylish. āNational Treasureā is getting a Disney+ series. Ana De Armas is in talks to appear in āJohn Wickā spinoff āBallerinaā. Edgar Wright on working with cinematographer Chung Chung-Hoon on āLast Night in Sohoā.
