Vol. 4: I'm So Jealous Of The People Having Fun In Venice
Venice hosts a film festival, 'Dune' Australia screenings, Russell Crowe's 'Poker Face' production suspended in NSW, a new 'Batman' trailer in October, plus Vin Diesel gets thoughtful on a boat.
It’s been almost a week already? Welcome and HI!
(づ ◕‿◕ )づ☞
This week I finished ‘Clickbait’, the Netflix series that was filmed in Melbourne. I found it quite gripping and totally did not pick who the culprit was. I still do have a lot of questions, mostly centred on (*spoilers!*) how a boomer could have *almost* got away with this convoluted catfishing scheme!

🍿A bunch of films premiered at the Venice Film Festival, including ‘Dune’ which got rave reviews, 'Spencer’, which stars Kirsten Stewart as Princess Diana and has generated early Oscars buzz). Time Magazine described Edgar Wright’s thriller ‘Last Night in Soho’ as “half brilliant” while star Anya Taylor-Joy describes it as an “acid trip”, which I can’t elaborate on because I’ve never taken acid before. Elsewhere, Jane Campion talks #MeToo and her film ‘The Power of the Dog’.
Anyway, me in lockdown:
🍿Speaking of going to the movies - for those looking forward to Denis Villeneuve’s ‘Dune’- if you’re in Australia you can apply to win pre-release screening tickets here.
🍿Filming on Russell Crowe’s ‘Poker Face’ has been suspended after a crew member tested positive to Covid-19. “We hope this situation will be confined and we can be back up and running very soon,” Crowe tweeted. ‘Poker Face’ was six days from wrapping up, and stars Crowe, Thor’s brother Liam Hemsworth and Thor’s wife Elsa Pataky.
🍿Eric Bana has a new murder mystery audio series out, called ‘The Orchard’. Per the SMH, he wants to see more Aussies on film; “It’s completely ridiculous that the world is inhabited by millions of Australians, and they just never appear on film, unless it’s an Australian film.”
🍿Park Seo-Joon has been cast in the ‘Captain Marvel’ sequel, ‘The Marvels’. Park had a cameo in Bong Joon Ho’s ‘Parasite’.
🍿Another day, another delay. We’re never gonna see ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ are we?? The film which stars Tom Cruise, Val Kilmer and Jennifer Connelly has been pushed back again, this time to 2022. It’s interesting to note that filming started on May 31, 2018 which is now well over three years ago. That date is commemorated here in this Twitter post by Tom Cruise.
🍿A new ‘Batman’ trailer is scheduled to debut at Warner Bros.’ DC FanDome on Oct. 16. It’s being held virtually - you can sign up here or watch via WB’s socials including Twitch.
🍿Are Andrew Garfield and Charlie Cox (who plays Matt Murdoch on the ‘Daredevil’ TV series) in the upcoming ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’? They sure are blinking a lot when asked if they are involved. We all know blinking secretly means yes.

🍿Postscripts: Marvel’s ‘Shang-Chi’ is out, but a lot of people in lockdown in Australia are sad. Box office receipts for the film are also reaching auspicious levels. Here’s John Cho on his wonky knee and playing the lead in the upcoming ‘Cowboy Bebop’ series. Vin Diesel is having a good time on a boat, while Oscar Isaac is having a good time smouldering! Tom Holland calls Zendaya “My MJ” (MY HEART) and Disney+ series ‘What If’ has an emotional support dog.
Here’s ours this week, when Rey turned one (she’s a lady now!) 🥰 You can also wish her a happy birthday here.
Kindest,
